Announcement for Postdoctoral Research Positions
The Kangwon National University - Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences (KRIMS), which launched its Glocal Lab program in September 2025 with support from the National Research Foundation of Korea, invites applications for postdoctoral research positions beginning October 1, 2025 (negotiable). The Glocal Lab program is a major national initiative designed to foster internationally competitive research environments in regional universities. As a newly established Glocal Lab, KRIMS provides excellent research conditions, strong institutional support, and opportunities for global collaboration across mathematics, applied mathematics, and data science. 1. Fields & Research Groups: Arithmetic Structures Research Group: Topology, Number Theory, Combinatorics Applied Algebra Research Center: Error-Correcting Codes, Quantum Information/Computing Computational Mathematical Sciences Research Center: Artificial Intelligence, Scientific Computing, Mathematical Modeling Data Science Research Center: Statistics and Data Science 2. Qualifications: Ph.D. in a relevant field, awarded within 7 years of appointment (or under age 40). 3. Terms: Up to 3 years (1+1+1), renewable annually based on performance. 4. Salary & Benefits: KRW 60,000,000 – 80,000,000 (approx. USD 45K–60K) per year, including benefits. Research allowance of KRW 10,000,000 (~USD 7.5K) per year. 5. ■ 세미나 안내 일시: 2025년 11월 25일 (화) 오후4시 장소: 경영대학1호관 308호 세미나실 강사: 곽일엽 교수님 (중앙대학교 응용통계학과) 강연제목: From Competition to Contribution: Cell Lineage Reconstruction and Gene Expression Prediction through DREAM Challenges 초록: In this talk, I will share our experience participating in two DREAM challenges, which evolved into interesting research contributions. First, in the "Allen Institute Cell Lineage Reconstruction" challenge, we tackled the complex task of reconstructing single-cell lineage trees from CRISPR recorders. By introducing novel methods like Weighted Hamming Distance (WHD) and K-mer Replacement Distance (KRD), we achieved top performance in Subchallenges 2 and 3, providing robust lineage predictions validated across various scenarios. These methods demonstrated robust performance across various conditions and are now available as the DCLEAR R package for public use. Second, in the "Predicting Gene Expression using Random Promoter Sequences" challenge, we developed Proformer, a hybrid macaron transformer model that predicts gene expression values from promoter sequences. I will explain the step-by-step process our team followed to design and refine this model. Our model secured 3rd place in the competition, and I will also introduce how we collaborated with the 1st and 2nd place teams, as well as the organizers, to derive the optimal solution through joint research. Through these experiences, we demonstrate how participation in scientific challenges bridges competitive innovation with collaborative progress, paving the way for advances in gene regulation modeling and single-cell lineage research.

[데이터과학연구센터 세미나]성신여자대학교 정호현 교수님 - Measuring Rich-Get-Richer in Dynamic Networks: A Latent Space Approach
일시: 2025년 11월 4일 (화) 오후4시 장소: 경영대학1호관 1308호 세미나실 연자: 정호현 교수님 (성신여자대학교 수리통계데이터사이언스학부) 강연제목: Measuring Rich-Get-Richer in Dynamic Networks: A Latent Space Approach 초록: This study proposes a dynamic latent space network model to measure the rich-get-richer phenomenon while accounting for fit-get-richer effects. By introducing a popularity influence parameter in addition to latent node positions, the model separates intrinsic node fitness from cumulative advantage mechanisms in network growth. Inference is conducted within a Bayesian framework and validated through simulations. The model is then applied to Bitcoin trust networks (OTC and Alpha), revealing clear evidence of the rich-get-richer effect and allowing comparisons of its magnitude across platforms. Results show that although conventional model selection criteria (e.g., DIC) have difficulty identifying the true latent dimension, the measurement of the rich-get-richer effect remains robust across different latent space dimensions.
